SALAM IN THE NEWS

THE DES MOINES REGISTER ON SALAM

Of the lot (of books received for review), "Salam: Divine Revelations from the Actual God," by Shyam D. Buxani, is the most unusual. Buxani was raised in the Hindu faith tradition, although he did not participate in that religion's rituals. He said he received divine enlightenment in 1984, while fasting and praying.

Worship, Buxani writes, should be a matter between a man and the "Actual God," free from superstition, fear and ritual. The Actual God does not perform miracles, has no sons and has never taken a form or incarnation.

Visual-worship is forbidden: No praying to idols, statues, pictures, paintings, photographs, images, animate or inanimate entities such as prophets, saints, gurus, mountains, planets, stars, comets, fire, water, wind, earth or any symbolic, imaginary or abstract image. It's a clear channel to Actual God or risk being ensnared by the devil.

If this piece of divine enlightenment catches on, it spells the doom of organized religion.
